/d/BlackMarket randomly inviting users for advertising

by /u/highasabison · 1 votes · 3 months ago

I just saw an invitation I had received from one of the mods of /d/BlackMarket. I have never interacted with this mod or have had anything to do with the market or the subdread. So, it seems like they are pretty much randomly inviting users to the subdread to advertise for their market. I have never received an invite to a subdread before, but I can't imagine advertisement is the purpose of this feature.

I'm not sure what should be done about this, just wanted to make it known to the admins so they could act on this in case they want to.

Thank you. Some markets do this for advertising. If they start spamming users like this over and over we usually will limit their subdread. We will keep an eye on it.

Then, how did other marketplaces get away with it back in the day? (Archetyp, if you want a single example

Edited to remove the rant.

Those markets spamming invites are the reasons we started cracking down on it. Some of those markets were even banned from Dread after we warned them numerous times to cut the shit. We were going to going to add a cool down in the last dread update, but it got pushed off for now. We did an update recently to our tools. One of which was upgrading our spam system. We can see who is spamming subdread invites a lot easier now.

Being innovative doesn't have to be adding new features. Come up with a creative captcha, add a new harm reduction system. There is a lot of ideas out there that can still be used by markets. For example look at when WHM came out, they were the first ones that were only XMR, forced PGP. They pushed users to be better.

As long as your not running the same market scrips we see over and over. Only supporting Bitcoin, doing the bare minimum for a market. We probably won't have a problem with you on Dread. There has been a lot fewer markets coming out the last few months which is why market announcements have slowed down. The Dread staff also does not do the market announcements, that's up to the /d/darknetmarkets mods.

Good to know those things. Sorry for the rant, and thank you for the explanation :-)

You might want to update the no-spam global rule on site-wide rules page to include sub invites. /u/Paris /u/HugBunter

We have a note that the staff adds to do or things for us to remember to fix. Updating the rules is something that is on there. We kicked a few drafts back and forth. It will be something we eventually get updated.
