Question: If the Main Dread Tor Onion URL was Stable, which would you prefer:
I would rather use a stable Tor Onion Link, using the Tor Browser. · 22 votes
I would rather use I2P or I2Pd to access Dread. · 9 votes
I don't believe the Main Dread Tor Onion URL will ever be stable. · 4 votes
I don't want to learn to configure I2P/I2Pd. · 0 votes
What the hell is I2P/I2Pd? · 0 votes

If it was stable it doesn't make any difference to me which way I connect.
The i2p link was invaluable when the DDOS first started, never had an issue connecting.
I2p is something people need to learn. Bit more technical to set up, but not rocket science either. :-)

I agree the setup for i2p isn't too bad. But it takes forever on my network for it to bootstrap up for some reason. Never been able to access the dread i2p, although to be fair I have not tried a ton since the onion site is back up.

the i2p link hasnt come back online since dread came back

I will probably still use the Tor url when Dread brings I2P back because I2P/I2Pd has a lower number of users and there are no foolproof out of the box solutions such as Whonix or Tails. You can configure Whonix to use I2Pd but I feel like I will definitely mess something up in doing so.

I wish ii2p/2pd worked out of the box with qubes.
Prestium has been a solid alternative for the time being, but I would like to have some persistence in my VM which Prestium doesn't offer at the moment.

Veracrypt is your friend here and I think there is another workaround that is documented on reddit

Stability will persist does not matter where

/u/HugBunter made some comments about the security/anonymity of i2P that spooked me. I've had no problems at all getting on to Dread in the last, say, month. I think they've got it under control, at least for now. I wish more markets would publicly share their private mirrors, as that would also help people getting on. Thanks to the one market that does that. But as far as I understand just reading Hug's words, Tor is more tested when it comes to security/anonymity than I2P.

It makes sense that tor is more tested in terms of security/anonymity than i2p. I would be worried about that for i2p, especially since I don't understand the concept as well as I do onion routing.

I would suggest running i2p on a VM, with a VPN running on the main system and UPnP disabled on the router. Just to be on the safe side. ;-)

What did Hug say about I2P? I'm curious
/u/atl · 2 votes · 2 weeks ago · Link
He said something like he could deanonymize a i2P user with minimal effort. Kind of freaked me out and soured me on i2P. I don't pretend to understand how or why.

Ok, thanks for info.

Where's the happy to use both?
