This is currently doing the rounds on Reddit, so I thought I'd post here for the people who don't use Reddit

I have question for those who are more technical: People are saying that as it only took a firmware update to put this Ledger Recovery feature in place, it must mean Ledger has always been backdoored. As in theory, someone could've done this with malicious software. Any truth to this?

No. Firmware updates are voluntary for hardware wallets as far as we know. A firmware update being able to change a feature does not mean that a product is "backdoored".
However, this is concerning news.

It does not indicate any backdooring. Just don't be lazy, while they work on a fix we should be fine.
