Ubiquiti Employee gets 6 years in jail after $2 million crypto extortion.

by /u/biggeoff77 · 2 votes · 2 weeks ago

A former employee of Ubiquiti has been sentenced to six years in jail after he pleaded guilty to posing as an anonymous hacker attempting to extort 2 mill worth of crypo while working for the company.

He was arrested in 2021 after using his insider access as a senior developer to steal confidential data, and then sending an anonymous email attempting to extort the company.

The company however didn't yield to this request, instead law enforcement was involved, resulting in his VPN connection being traced to a Surfshark account connected with his PayPal.

He tried to tamper with files to conceal his activity, but was obviously unsuccessful.
