What gets you excited about life? (Pinned post)

by /u/BenjaminButton · 16 votes · 2 months ago

I am excited every time I am planning to have a new experience. It doesn’t matter if it is traveling to an exotic location, eating a weird food or attempting a new adventure. what yours ?

Learning. I love discovering a new subject and going way down the rabbit hole trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible. Currently meditation and cacti - need me some Peyote.

/u/lucknow · 8 votes · 1 month ago · Link

Have you tried doing yoga so that you can suck your own dick?

/u/lazyowls · 2 votes · 1 month ago · Link

Haha, when I was much younger this was an idea, think I'm past it now, though maybe if I can continue my morning exercise and meditation routine for a decent while. Not sure if the other half would be into seeing that though.

There really is no motivation to achieve anything else once that level is reached.

/u/that-time-of-the-night · 2 votes · 1 month ago · Link

Same. Learning is one of the very few things that is keeping me going. I was a business major and had zero passion for my work. Now I'm back at school in hopes of pursuing a different career. It's really challenging at times however knowing that I'm pursuing something meaningful is one of the few things that keeps me going.

/u/lazyowls · 1 votes · 1 month ago · Link

What are you pursuing at school? Tech can be good if you need/want to be constantly learning.

/u/that-time-of-the-night · 1 votes · 1 month ago · Link

Thank you for asking! I'm majoring in chemistry and working toward a phlebotomy certificate alongside my degree. I'm hoping that I'll get into med school after completing my bachelor's. I learned some programming languages in the past, but I opted not to pursue tech as a career because it feels kinda impersonal. I take it you're a tech guy?

/u/lazyowls · 1 votes · 1 week ago · Link

Yes, I work in infrastructure so very much putting everything in place that businesses need to thrive. As a consultant I meet and work with lots of people in lots of industries so it doesn't feel as impersonal as maybe a programmer does. I've largely been introverted since a young age, but since growing up I'm seeing more the benefits of maintaining relationships.

Med school is very noble, good luck in pursuing that, even if people generally seem to shit on medically trained people regularly.

Yup. I'm doing that 247 now. I had a message from beyond 10 years ago that only said one word to me. It said: Erudite.

I work in tech, so there's always new subjects to learn in that area, currently security is my focus. For a lot of subjects I tend to find they lead into each other, so there is an element of learn like crazy for a few weeks then move on, but I always try and circle back around and round things out.

This! Not sure why, but ever since I started looking at learning, accepting challenges as similar to exp grinding on a videogame, I can really feel joy out of life, most of the time.

/u/mellow · 2 votes · 2 months ago · Link

Any sort of adventure.. but especially psychedelic adventures. Delving deep into the tryptamine world is my favorite.

Also learning something new, which is an adventure in and of itself.

/u/Xanadu88 · 2 votes · 1 month ago · Link

Agree. Can't argue with both of those. Freedom especially as I've had mine taken away a few times

/u/spotifyplaylist · 1 votes · 1 month ago · Link

Lots of people underestimate freedom. I think it is sad. I think that freedom is the most valuable thing we can have.

/u/Xanadu88 · 1 votes · 1 month ago · Link

For sure. It's something that's taken for granted and also probably not applicable to most people. But to the small % in the "game", losing our freedom is always a possible reality therefore highly valued

/u/Overcast7427 · 2 votes · 2 months ago · Link

Going out and doing something new. Knowing you are loved by people. Enjoying the small things in life. Having privacy and a future ahead of you.

Peace and f*cking quite. That rarest of delights.

/u/BiffMcDread · 2 votes · 1 month ago · Link

nothing basically. i liked learning. receiving my degree was probably the most rewarding in life for a short period. good movies, looking at beautiful things, food. but not anymore. life is unbearable. and there's no light at the end of the tunnel.

Money.

Money makes certain things easier.

So after-all maybe experience, same as you.

/u/RandomKid · 1 votes · 2 months ago · Link

Nothing really. I have some daily rushes of excitement caused by external factors (e.g. anime, reading, video games, etc), but nothing to move life forward. Time passes without me noticing it slowly eating my poor soul.

I'd say learning new things alongside being able to do things on my own. Make my own money, live my own life. Prepping for future travel - just gotta get my personal financial and other situations under check before I begin doing such.

If I'm being completely honest, there isn't much that excites me about life anymore. I do have things that I enjoy, but at this point, I'd say life has feels pretty bland and pointless to me.

/u/M41KY · 1 votes · 3 weeks ago · Link

oh, I like new experiences and adventures. I travel everywhere and for a long time now I've been tempted to try something illegal like weed marijuana or something. I'm twenty-five years old and I haven't tried it yet, does it bother me? :D

/u/Falkore · 1 votes · 1 week ago · Link

Honestly I would have to say its going outside in warm weather in a nice breeze and sitting alone in silence for a moment to take in the air. Or sitting with someone I care about who understands sitting in the silence. I don't get to do this often and my life is chaotic so yeah that gets me excited.
