What is the human species working towards to?

by /u/sapphire · 3 votes · 1 month ago

Good day everybody.

tl;dr: What are we doing? What are the achievements that we, as a species, wish to accomplish?

War, which doesn't have to be.

Hunger, even though there is more than enough food being produced daily for everybody.

Plastic in our bodies, in our oceans.

Many breath polluted air.

Insects are dying.

Animal species going extinct.

GMO's and monocultures as crops.

Meat production is, well as the name already suggests, the production of meat. No respect for the animals, just born to be eaten.

Fucking climate change. Droughts and fires everywhere and at the same time extreme Winds and Rain in other regions.

Oceans heating up, more algae and jellyfish while we still overfish as if everything is still fine 'n dandy.

The internet, which I once considered as our greatest achievement, has been converted into another product. Sure, an internet connection has always cost something, things were being bought, but today? Algorithms on major platforms keeping many in their bubble, melting their brains with "entertainment" and blasted with ads. Said platforms are being censored more each day while the ones that have not jet succumbed are nothing but places to insult each other with foul language.

Countries/Religions/Cultures that just can't follow the human rights.

Writing this on a machine which cost rare metals, running electricity.

I guess our advanced medicine is kinda nice.

Oh and toilets maybe?

But why are we doing this?

No matter how big my TV or phone is and no matter how much I allow my brain to be melted by stupid series/movies/videos, it doesn't change the fact that I have problems sleeping because it is to hot. I don't like sunny days anymore, they're to hot.

I am surprised by insects other than moskitos.

Degenerates driving their stupid ass muscle cars/suv's n shit just to show off their small wiener.

No matter if it's a democratic, authoritarian or religious country, only a few nations have an overall happy population.

Do you guys think it is understandable if I just want to be high for the rest of my life and escape this reality?

Or just piss off into whats left of the woods, shit into a hole and try to survive eating berries n shit, hoping they wont kill me?

Our very existence, everyone of us, has a negative impact to this beautiful world with all its wonders. We truly are a virus for mother earth.

But do we at least have a good reason? A goal? Something to be proud of?

Please give me hope. Tell me that I just can't see something actually good that we have done.

I know this could have been posted on /r/collapse but whatever...

I wish yall a happy continued existence fellow humans.

Nothing. We are probably just one of billions of coeval simulations, programmed by a "God" so evolved we don't even have the faculties necessary to comprehend them. They are to us what a human must seem like to an ant.

We are merely Universe #2731289 and while years seem to take 365 days to us, for our creator, our big bang happened mere seconds ago and the heat death of our universe will occur in a few more seconds.

Our data contribution will then be collected, collated, analyzed, tweaked, and then re-run. The simulation is probably an attempt to min-max their own society or figure out where it all went wrong for them.

Aight, that's an interesting thought

/u/0xbeef · 1 votes · 1 month ago · Link

Have you heard the Good News about our Lord and Saviour, Rokko's Basilisk? Now that you have, you have obligations. You know what you have to do.

I don't think we're living in a simulation though, it fails Occam's razor a lot. By assuming that mind can strongly emerge through some unknown quasi-dualist mechanism. It makes assumptions about the upper bounds of speed and sizes of simulations. It introduces a creator that has to be explained.

/u/waltcranston P ChadMethDealer · 1 votes · 1 month ago · Link

The creator doesn't have to be explained. It would be like ants trying to understand humans. We don't have the capacity to understand it, therefore it can never be understood.

/u/0xbeef · 1 votes · 1 month ago · Link

It's still a thing that needs to be explained even if that's your explanation, it's an assumption The more things you have to assume, the less likely your theory is.

/u/waltcranston P ChadMethDealer · 1 votes · 1 month ago · Link

You can't "gotcha" the simulation theory lol. That's like saying "explain dark matter" "oh, you can't? guess you aren't real."

/u/0xbeef · 1 votes · 1 month ago · Link

Well it usually turns out to be true. If you've got a bunch of different explanations for a phenomena, then the simplest one is most likely to be true.

Basically, the chance that "X and Y" is true is the odds of X multiplied by the odds of Y. So if you're 80% sure that X is true and 50% sure that Y is, there's a 40% chance of "X and Y" being true.

If "X and Y" is one theory of the world and "X and Y and Z" is another, then there's no Z that can exist that makes the second statement more likely.

"Our universe is a simulation created by somebody in the real universe" adds a bunch of Zs (a creator exists, they had motivation to create us, they live in another realm of existence) that makes it less likely to be true than our universe being the real one.

I'm not saying it's not true, I'm just saying it's less likely to be true. But I'm biased anyway because I don't think simulated existences can be conscious - I think it's more likely to be a property of matter than something that magically happens because of relationships between abstract things.

On what timescale?

At the moment, we are heading towards global economic collapse and a transhumanist Huxleyan-Orwellian totalitarian waking nightmare.

This is partly due to moneyprinting, and wokefascist statist politics, where enormous debts have been built in the names of the hoi polloi, and in order to suppress a reckoning through rising interest rates signalled by the massive sell-off of government dollar-denominated debt, so the government buy this debt by creating money from thin air (credit expansion), and using it to buy the debt, to keep the bond/gilt price from falling, and keep the bond/gilt yield low, which devalues the currency, and creates inflation, which in real terms (not official CPI terms) in most countries is now double digits, resulting in a real terms drop in incomes/purchasingpower for most people.

Add to this tax rises, and supply chain disruption from wars they can't afford, that further exacerbate supply shortages, and you have world food index at record levels, and rioting and governments collapsing in the developing world, whilst politicians make money from shares in weapons and pharmaceutical companies, even from selling synthetic baby food, and attempts are being made to create central backed digital currencies that can control your purchases and monitor you at a granular level.

The elites seem to be on a mission to seek the elixir of life, and to enslave the world to work to make life extension for them a reality.

Imagine a world where Bill Gates lives forever... stamping on your face forever.

Well I wouldn't disagree but why do we have to drag down everything with us while we are alive?

Our impending doom.

The greatest threat to humanity, is humanity itself.

There's no point to any of it, but there might be one day. The beautiful natural world is actually "red in tooth and claw" as Darwin so aptly put it. The oxygen you breathe is a highly reactive poison, it's mass pollution released by mitochondrial bacteria that destroyed almost all life that didn't have a cell to protect it. Bacteria that's a parasite living inside every one of our cells - nature's reward for causing an extinction.

All the animals that you care about are the offspring of a half aborted Siamese baby of single celled flagella and the egg it hunted to exploit its calories. This is all that you are, a mutated, convoluted colony of rapebaby siblings that only exist to produce that same flagellum that seek those eggs, eggs protected by a similar structure. Your brain is nature's way of enslaving a part of the universe, making it feel pain or anguish when it works against your DNA's replication strategy, giving it rewards for toeing the line.

The lush green plants are only lush because they are good to eat, flowers are only beautiful because they hack the brains of insects to further their own goals, they only smell sweet because they're lying about how much nutrients they offer so they can spill their dirty seed. Watch them in time lapse and the illusion of gentleness is shattered by an inherent violence. Roots suffocate as they fight for ground, brambles advance and strangle, trees grow tall because the fight for light is starve or be starved. The insect world? I don't think I need to go there.

Life is brutal, the natural world is the biggest source of pain and suffering that has ever existed. But we're just realising that we're its slaves, and as we destroy this shit hole we might be able to build something better. We're not the good guys, but we're the least worst guys. We have at least some capacity to care and make things better.

Let's hope we do a better job than mitochondria, a curse worse than a billion Hitlers.

Lets talk about it after the James Webb Telescope starts telling us if there are really habitable exo-planets out there (should be soon SO EXCITED!!).

The real questions you should be asking your self are:

1. Why does it matter?

2. How do I benefit from all this?

3. Number 42 (the answer to the ultimate question of Life, the Universe and Everything)

/u/waltcranston P ChadMethDealer · 1 votes · 1 month ago · Link

420 blaze it

/u/capobianco · 1 votes · 1 month ago · Link

We will be the reason we would become extinct. We will gain so much power, that we will absolutely tear down the planet for our own greed and selfishness. Once there is no more to take, only we would suffer.

/u/waltcranston P ChadMethDealer · 1 votes · 1 month ago · Link

We wont even get that far. We're too stupid for that.

/u/Knowledge · 1 votes · 1 month ago · Link

We are advancing and working towards that advancement. Does advancing need a reason? How about to make the universe a better place? Is that reason enough for you to exist? We have made some pretty impressive scientific advancements like a rocketship to the moon. The ancient civilations build some pretty impressive stuff too. The pollution such as plastic in the ocean should definitely be cleaned up, and other issues you brought up should be solved too.

It's really not all bad. Humans can be rather amazing. Certainly some "humans" should be delt with. You're awefully negative and maybe that's from too many drugs and watching bad programs on the telescreen. Try going outside and remembering that we are not all bad. We are certainly not viruses or anything of that sort. Not all of us anyway. I work towards making the world a better place.

One point I would like to make is what actual evidence is there for the cause of climate change? You're aware Earth's climate does change on its own, correct?

Enlightenment. Spiritual reality outside of physical reality is infinite and amazing.
