EDIT: I've been an idiot. I was not banned - I was trying to log in with the wrong password. Sorry for that. Everything else happened as described though.
Hi, basically a deposit I made never showed up, and I appear to have been banned for asking for a refund. On their home sub they seem to delete posts about bad experiences.
Now I don't want to spread negativity, slag them off on all corners of dread etc etc...
However I do want to share the experience to see if people think I'm in the wrong or them, and if it's them, to let others know about it.
So is there a sub where people do this, or is it not really the done thing, or what? Any suggestions appreciated, thanks

Yeah, the loss of funds was due to a rule they have where if your deposit isn't confirmed within 6 hours, coins are gone.

Why didnt your deposit confirm in 6hours? did you not send a high enough transaction fee? So personally i'd lean towards you being in the wrong unless there was a massive delay on the blockchain that was out of your control. Its not even a case where they could be in the wrong really, you literally have to agree to a popup that tells you that the wallet address is only valid for 6hours, and to send sufficient fees, and they even recommend to use monero because it doesnt have that restriction. So its also not that "they stole your money"... its a security feature on their market, and im pretty sure they dont even have access to those funds if you send it after it expires. I would consider it a valuable lesson learned, and move on.

Walter, what if you had this happen with another market and a monero transfer?
Tor2door gives 30minutes for a transaction to process before the order is cancelled. I sent funds too late and the order cancelled before the transfer registered. Now I am waiting 2+ days for support but have received only lip service from mods on dread.

I would say the same thing. Know your market. Know its rules. Read what the screen tells you. Never order until you fully understand how it works. Have your currency in the correct format and place before you order. If you have a 30min window, and you ordered but it took you 20 mins to get your coin ready to deposit, you should wait for it to cancel and order again when ready. I dont use t2d, and looking at their website, XMR deposits are considered registered after 1 confirmation, which should take no more than 10 mins in most cases. If you failed to read the things on the screen, and send funds after the 30 mins, there is nothing support can do, which is likely why they havent gotten back to you, and no mod on dread can do anything at all for you, except say "so sorry, read and know what you are doing before buying drugs on the internet." Always assume your coins is 100% lost after ever time you send it, never spend coin you cant afford to throw in the trash.
If you are full of "what if's" as to why you couldnt make the 30mins, you can always deposit to the wallet on the market first, once thats clear, then order. done. problem solved :P Also, if you think a direct pay is helping the vendor avoid an exit scam or something, it doesnt, market wallet to vendor wallet or direct to vendor wallet still goes to the same place, the vendors market wallet which doesnt clear until escrow does.

The fee may not have been high enough, but I assumed it was good for 6 hours since it's usually been from what I remember. And I had no idea I'd lose the coins - assumed the transaction would just cancel or something. Anyway thanks for the info and yes I'll move on. Where do those coins go then?
/u/walter499 Knows Stuff · 2 votes · 2 months ago · Link
yeah, thats just how btc works, once its sent, you cant cancel it and it never 'bounces back' as returned or anything. If it works how i think it does, the key that signed the wallet was only valid for 6 hours, and then expired, so it went to that wallet, but after 6 hours noone can access it, and it just sits there forever now. I could be wrong, but thats my best educated guess.

I've been a idiot - I was not banned, just trying to use the wrong password! Somehow the right one ended up in the wrong place etc. So they didn't ban me - they just said they can't refund me and left it there.
